Starting your trip

The BMW i3 does not have a car key. To open and close the car, you can use the MyWheels app.
To open the glove compartment, press the square button on the bottom-left of the compartment.

If the car is connected to a charging point, disconnect it by holding the charging key against the reader on the connecting point.

To disconnect the charging cable from the car, press the central locking button near the handle of the driver's door.

Always take the charging cable with you in the car; put it in the boot.

Depress the foot brake.

Press the start button. It sits on the gear lever to the right of the steering column.

The dashboard display lights up and the word ‘Ready’ will appear on the display.

After the engine has started, move the gear lever to position D, keeping the foot brake depressed as you do so.

The positions are:

  • P = park

  • R = reverse

  • N = neutral

  • D = drive

Change from one position to another by moving the control forwards or backwards. The indicator next to the control shows which position the control is in. This is also shown on the display.

As soon as you release the brake in position D or R, the car will begin to move. You can see on the display how many kilometres’ worth of battery charge is left. Remember that the actual distance may be shorter than shown. This depends on such aspects as the way the car is driven, the use of heating or air conditioning, and weather conditions.

It's our belief that we can keep the Netherlands on the move with just one million cars. We can do our bit by promoting the use of shared cars. Because the more cars we share, the fewer cars we need to own. If there’s always a shared car just around the corner, you can go wherever you want, whenever you want. MyWheels. Only benefits.
